Day five

I leave Redmond, but on my way out of town I see this gorgous car, I believe he said it is a 1947 Packard....but I could be wrong. The guy was very nice.

Road 242...what a beaut!

Like so many people I enjoy seeing covered bridges.

I arrive in Junction, Oregon and call my friends Tea and Nina. 1/2 hour later they arrive at my hotel, and we are on our way to a late lunch. Then we ride to the coast, but first a stop at Alsea Falls.
Tea by the falls.
 Nina by the falls.
Tea and Nina by the falls.
Tea, Nina, and me by the falls.
On our way to the coast.

We get lost, (and find serendipity) but some nice locals stop and give us directions to the coast.
 The coast.

We go here and Tea buys an albacore tuna.

On our way to their house.
Tea preps and cooks the tuna, along with rice and......some other stuff. Delicious!
Hey Tea, I yell, someone pooped in your garden! No, he says, that's a slug, there are so many around here they made it  the Oregon state bird. Haha...
Their yard has tons of rasberrys! I ate a half a ton.
I ride to my motel after dinner, but first we plan our ride for the next day

Day six

It's raining in the morning so we delay our ride; I decide it's a good time to wash my clothes. It took forever for them to dry!
Still raining so we change from a ride to a drive. T and N pick me up and off we go to Corvalis. This poster was in a music store along main street.
 A famous local brewery.
 Samples.

Pretty soon everything looked like this!
 The County Courthouse in Corvalis.
Then we go pick some blueberries.

My haul, I didn't get very many as they would go bad in the heat of my panniers. But they did last a few days and I had most of them eaten before they got too bad.
The cloud covered mountain is where we were lost the day before..
I was looking for a new throttle boss, so we go to a motorcycle shop where T and N know the staff. They didn't have what I needed, but if a person is restoring an old bike this is the place to call! I was given the tour of both buildings, I can't believe they have so many parts and pieces!

They even have a disco ball!
Everything is very well organized, if you want a gasket you go to this drawer.
If  you want a flasher for your blinker you go to this drawer....

After CyclePsyco we call it a day and decide the time we will meet the next day when I will be starting for home. T and N will escort me to the town, Sisters, where we will eat and then part ways.

Day seven

On our way to Sisters for lunch. Notice anything weird about this tree?
At the top of Road 242. The holes in the structure each point to a different mountain.

 Me and the Sisters.
We stop to eat, and after T and N are on their way home, I'm headed for an overnight stay in Boise.
Gas stop along the way at a place so tiny that this was the soul school in town.
'Nother gas and eat stop in Vale, Oregon. Then on to Boise. A 500 and something mile day.

Day eight
I leave Boise and ride over the Sawtooth Mountains to Stanley, Idaho where I have lunch.

Then on to Challis where I turn right and head for Arco.
 Narrow pass.

Overnight in Idaho Falls.

Day nine
Spend the night in Idaho Falls with the fam, then ride home the next day (sort of) taking the bikers shortcut  to Jackson Wyoming.
The Tetons
Lunch stop in Victor Idaho. The Huckleberry shakes are worth the ride by themselves....
You know life is good when you have a huckleberry shake for lunch!
Self portrait of me and Gen.
US 89 south of Jackson, Wyoming.
I make a small detour to take this picture. Cokeville had an amazing incident in 1986. 167 children and adults were taken hostage by a deranged man and his wife. When the bomb they had built exploded; miraculously none of the hostages were killed. A book was written about it, "When Angels intervene to save the children" Hartt, Wixom.
And I make it home.
A very scenic ride; Lolo Pass, in Idaho; 395, 12, 26 and 242 across Oregon; 26, 31, and 33 (the Teton Pass Hwy) from Idaho Falls to Victor Idaho to Jackson Wyoming. And finally US 89 down Wyoming and into Utah et.al.

Four states, and 2418 miles of picturesque, charming backroads. The worst mileage I got was 50 the best was 60 average was 52 something.
Nearly hit two deer, got chased by a moose, had an incredible Chinese massage, and spent time with my Brother-in-law (and two riding buddies), and two dear friends!
Sweet!!!!!!
